The Aisling House Curb Appeal

We purchased our late 1970's bungalow back in February of this year with over an acre of possibilities and chickens.

When we first purchased our home, there were several large patches of native ferns.  I recently took out the larger patch on the left of the house about a month ago with the intent of using the space for our veggie garden. However, fast forward a few weeks after we took them out, we find out that our septic system is under the ferns. So... now what to do with that empty space?

I've been on the fence about the front entrance to our home. As you can see, there is a second small patch of ferns. If you know me personally, you know that I have deep-rooted FEAR snakes.  We have a family of black snakes on our property (they keep the bad snakes away so I'll take it). I found out fairly recently that we do have pygmy rattlesnakes (*shivers*). I still want to offer the good snakes shelter but, I also want to add some curb appeal.

I have some spare perennial seed babies that need to be planted. However, the problem is, I would need to plant tall flowers to see them. I'm looking at Gladiolus, Hollyhawk, Foxglove, Zinnias, maybe a few Star Lilies.  But I also have an idea to design another garden using the ferns. Maybe... I should ax the idea of a garden by the front door (see photo for above)?

I did find a garden layout idea on Pinterest that I think could work for that space, and how cute would a little birdbath be in front with some solar light be...
